First Baptist Church of Hogansville
First Baptist Church      of Hogansville

About Us

First Baptist Church of Hogansville is the result of faith from ten men and fourteen women who met together on March 6, 1868, for the purpose of organizing a church. As a result of that meeting Mary Ann and John T. Pullin gave a plot of land on East Main St. to be used for the building of a church. The first church was constructed of red sand brick and was called The Baptist Church of Christ. After 1900 the name was changed to The First Baptist Church of Hogansville.

Thomas H. Murphy was called in 1868 as the first pastor of the newly formed church, and a secretary and one deacon were elected. In the 145 years since the organization of the church, gradual growth and development have been manifested in every phase of Christian work. The pastors of the church from its organization have worked with great faith and untiring effort to win souls for Christ and have contributed more than can be recorded to the growth and advancement of First Baptist Church of Hogansville.

In 1869 the first sanctuary was built on the land donated by the Pullin family. In 1950 a new education building was built and a0 new sanctuary, which is still in use today, was finished in December 1956. Land was also purchased in 1950 for a parking lot and more was purchased in 2008 for furth0er expansion as needed.

First Baptist Church of Hogansville has been a very active member participant and missions partner with the Southern Baptist Convention. The church has a long record of supporting missions locally and globally through its own members and by supporting the Cooperative Program. First Baptist hosted its first Western Baptist Association meeting in the fall of 1889. This support continues today through giving to the Cooperative Program, the mission offerings of Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong, along with international mission trips to Jamaica, local mission trips to North Georgia and Tennessee, and local missions through God's Bread Basket.

We look forward to having you visit and worship with us in the very near future to help us continue our Godly heritage.
